One notable example of Black excellence in healthcare is Dr. Patricia Bath, an ophthalmologist and inventor. Dr. Bath became the first African American female doctor to receive a medical patent for her invention, the Laserphaco Probe. This device revolutionized cataract surgery by using laser technology to remove cataracts, making the procedure more precise and less invasive. Dr. Bath's invention has had a profound impact on patients worldwide, improving their vision and quality of life.
