The legal dispute between Michael Oher, a former NFL player, and the Tuohy family, who adopted him and were portrayed in the movie "The Blind Side," revolves around a legal petition and the financial aspects related to the success of the film.
1. The Legal Petition:
The conflict began when Sean Tuohy, the father in the Tuohy family, filed a legal petition in 2017 seeking conservatorship over Oher's affairs. The petition claimed that Oher was unable to make sound decisions regarding his personal life and finances. It alleged that Oher was being taken advantage of by friends and family members who were mismanaging his money.
Oher, however, strongly opposed the petition, arguing that he was capable of managing his own affairs and did not require a conservator. He stated that the Tuohy family's actions were motivated by their desire to control him and his financial resources.
2. Financial Disputes:
One of the key issues in the dispute involves the money generated by the success of "The Blind Side." The film, which depicted Oher's life and his relationship with the Tuohy family, was a box office hit and earned over $300 million worldwide.
Oher claims that he has not received his fair share of the profits from the movie. He argues that the Tuohy family has benefited financially from his life story without adequately compensating him. Oher's attorney stated that the family had promised to take care of him financially but failed to fulfill their commitments.
The Tuohy family, on the other hand, denies any wrongdoing and contends that they have provided Oher with substantial financial support over the years. They argue that Oher has received significant benefits, including a home, a car, and educational opportunities, as a result of their relationship.
3. Public Statements:
Both parties have made public statements expressing their perspectives on the matter. Oher has accused the Tuohy family of using him for their personal gain, stating that they have treated him like an "indentured servant." He has also criticized the portrayal of his life in "The Blind Side," claiming that it was not an accurate representation.
The Tuohy family has defended their actions, emphasizing their love and support for Oher. They have stated that their efforts were motivated solely by their desire to help him succeed and that they have always acted in his best interests.
4. Resolution Status:
As of now, the legal dispute remains unresolved. However, it is important to note that the Tuohy family has withdrawn their legal petition for conservatorship over Oher's affairs. This indicates that they may have reached some form of agreement or decided to pursue alternative means of resolving their differences.
It is essential to refer to reputable news sources or legal documents for the most up-to-date and accurate information on this ongoing dispute.

The fact that his attorney was their friend who also brokered the movie deal is wild to me. Now said attorney has no comment.

I haven't seen anything regarding their side of the story. However, I don't see how they justify what they did to Michael Oher, IF what He is saying is true & the evidence confirms it. Just a sad situation all around....
