When it comes to choosing between the PS4 and PS5 as a first gaming console, there are several factors to consider. Let's delve into the details and provide examples and references to help make an informed decision.

1. Price: Price is an essential consideration, especially for first-time console buyers. The PS4, being the older generation, is significantly cheaper compared to the PS5. As of 2021, the PS4 Slim (500GB) is priced around $299, while the PS5 is priced at $499 for the standard edition. This price difference can be crucial, especially for individuals on a tight budget or those who want to dip their toes into gaming without significant financial commitment.

2. Game Library: The PS4 has a vast and diverse game library, with a plethora of critically acclaimed titles. With over 110 million units sold worldwide, developers have focused on creating games for the PS4 for years, resulting in a rich and varied collection. Notable examples of exclusive PS4 games include "The Last of Us Part II," "God of War," and "Horizon Zero Dawn." These games have received high praise for their storytelling, graphics, and gameplay. Additionally, many popular third-party games are available on the PS4, such as "Red Dead Redemption 2" and "Grand Theft Auto V."

3. Backward Compatibility: The PS5 offers backward compatibility, meaning it can play most PS4 games. This feature allows gamers to enjoy both the PS5's enhanced performance and the extensive library of PS4 games. However, it's worth noting that not all PS4 games are compatible with the PS5, and some may require updates or patches to run optimally.

4. Next-Generation Features: The PS5 boasts several next-generation features that enhance the gaming experience. It offers faster loading times, thanks to its solid-state drive (SSD), which can significantly reduce wait times in games. The PS5 also supports ray tracing, a rendering technique that provides more realistic lighting and reflections in games. Additionally, the DualSense controller, exclusive to the PS5, introduces haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, enhancing immersion and gameplay mechanics in compatible games.

5. Availability and Future-Proofing: As of now, the PS5 is still in high demand and can be challenging to find due to limited stock. If availability is a concern, opting for a PS4 ensures immediate access to a wide range of games and avoids the hassle of hunting for a PS5. However, if future-proofing is important, investing in a PS5 might be a better choice. The PS5 offers improved hardware capabilities, which will likely be harnessed by upcoming games, delivering enhanced graphics, performance, and features.

In conclusion, choosing between the PS4 and PS5 as a first gaming console depends on personal preferences, budget, and availability. The PS4 offers a vast game library at a more affordable price, making it an excellent option for those on a budget. On the other hand, the PS5 provides next-generation features, improved performance, and backward compatibility, ensuring a more future-proofed gaming experience.

Realistically the Ps5 is just better in every way, if you can afford it, i recommend it because the ps4 is nearing it's time, and even if that wasn't the case the ps games are now only for the ps5.

If budget is not an issue PS5 is the right solution, if you buy PS4 nowadays you probably won't be able to sell it later on if you want to so it's like a cash dump.

Either a cheap, old PS4, or a brand new PS5 is the way Brand new PS4 for full price not worth it. At that point, save for a PS5. PS4 is enough to play the current games. You need the PS5 to play the upcoming games since they're moving on already from the PS4

Depends on your available budget. PS4 will be cheaper and there still games being released for it and you have huge library of games ever since PS4 was first released. PS5 is fairly new console and a lot more powerful and it can run PS4 games so you still should be able to enjoy the huge library of games from PS4 many of them will run better or at higher fps and you can be sure that you have whole livecycle for PS5 before you. So it boils down to your budget and if you want to "future proof" your console or you are fine with console that is nearing end of it's lifecycle

Go for PS5 IF you can afford it because you can play PS4 and PS5 games on it. If you are on a short budget , go for a PS4 slim or a PS4 pro. Don't go for the " fat " PS4 because it's now very old ( 10 years in a few month. ) and there is too many risk of an issue with it.
